Breathwork

What is breathwork?

Breathwork is conscious work with the breath that supports the connection between body, mind and emotions. It uses the breath's natural ability to influence the nervous system, your state of consciousness and your inner experience.

Breath isn't a tool for fixing people. It's a way to get back in touch with yourself – with your body, your emotions and your inner wisdom.

Possible benefits of breathwork

Breath can open more than your head can. It takes you beyond the surface layers of the mind – to your body, your emotions and the patterns that can finally shift and let go.

The breathwork experience

Conscious Connected Breath (CCB)

Conscious Connected Breath (CCB) is a technique of working with breath, body and energy that can lead you into states of deep inner change.

During a guided breath session, you lie on a mat (or sit – though this isn't recommended for beginners) with your eyes closed, carried by carefully chosen music. Through your own breath, you gradually move beyond everyday mental patterns and a limited image of yourself, and can explore your inner world.

“Breathwork” is the umbrella term for the various forms of conscious connected breathing. Interest in it has grown significantly around the world in recent years.

All forms of CCB go back to two main schools of modern breathwork that emerged in the 1970s – Holotropic Breathwork and Rebirthing. Although the approaches differ in setting, guidance and the tools they use, they share one basic principle – a continuous breath with no pause between the inhale and the exhale.

Connected breathing can lead to unusual states of consciousness, altered perception and deep inner experiences. Every breath session is different – for every person, and every time. The breath acts as a guide, taking you exactly where you most need to go at that moment.

A safe space and support

Throughout the session, you're in a safe and respectful space where you're completely free to experience and express whatever comes up – without pressure or judgement. Breath connects you with your inner wisdom and with what your body can process on its own.

No previous experience with breathwork is needed. I'll explain everything and adapt my guidance to what you need.

Come and explore your breath with openness, curiosity and exactly as you are.

Group sessions

A few words about group energy

Breathwork in a group isn't a quiet meditation.

“I felt safe, as if I had known you all for a long time.”
Jitka K.group gathering · Translated from Czech

The breath tends to be deeper and more audible, and the body may express itself in its own way – with a sigh, movement, tears, laughter, words, sometimes even a shout.

None of this is required, and nothing has to happen.
Some sessions are quiet, others livelier. Both are fine – it's simply something being released.

If something happening in the room touches you or triggers a strong reaction in you, it's often valuable information about your own process – and I'm here to support you in it.

Come with the intention of staying with your own breath and your own experience, not with what's going on around you.

You can slow down, rest or step out of the room for a while at any time.

This applies to group sessions. A 1:1 session is a different experience – just you and me, calmly and at your own pace. If a group feels like too much for now, it can be a gentle place to start.

Your safety first

Who breathwork isn't for

Breathwork isn't for everyone, and it's only fair to say so up front. It doesn't replace medical or psychotherapeutic care. If you're going through an acute crisis right now, please reach out to a professional first – that's care the breath can't replace. And don't expect a quick fix: breath works gradually, at your pace.

Contraindications for breathwork

Breathwork is not recommended for people with the following health conditions:

  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Glaucoma
  • Retinal detachment
  • High blood pressure
  • Pregnancy
  • Thyroid disease
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Schizophrenia
  • Epilepsy
  • Aneurysm

If you're unsure about your health or have any doubts at all, please write to me beforehand and also check with your doctor before taking part.

Possible side effects

Some physical or emotional reactions may come up during breathwork, for example:

  • Changes in body temperature
  • Dry mouth
  • Tingling or cramps in the hands or feet
  • Stronger emotional release

These reactions are common and usually temporary. After a more intense emotional experience, it can help to give yourself some integration care – for example, a conversation with a professional you trust, or a 1:1 breath session.
